As many of you are aware, Jake Lipstraw, a member of St. Paul UCC, was under medical care in Cleveland for some time. Following an October accident, a very large tumor was discovered in Jake’s spinal canal that is suspected to have been there for quite some time. He underwent a very extensive 9 hour surgery at the Cleveland Clinic on December 19 that was supposed to remove this tumor in its entirety. Unfortunately the surgeons were not able to remove all of it and another surgery took place on December 27. But as a result further complications occurred and additional treatment was necessary, so Jake spent weeks in Rehab in Cleveland. He recently was readmitted to Cleveland Clinic and has now been discharged again to UTMC inpatient rehab in Toledo.

Our Church Council and the Mission and Stewardship Team are providing two ways for our St. Paul family (and others!) to provide support:

1) A fund has been established here at SPUCC for folks to provide financial support. All donations will benefit Jake, his wife Samantha, and their daughter Mila, to help cover medical costs, lost wages during treatment and recovery, and travel expenses to and from therapy. Mark your offering “Lipstraw family.”

2) There is a twice-per-week meal ministry to assist Jake, Sam, and Mila. Go to to sign up for an open date. Certain meal preferences are on the website. If you don’t have computer access, contact or stop into the church office for assistance.

Thank you for your care and support!
